We started this club to share our love for badminton, with a special tribute to the South Asian community where that passion runs deep.
Over time, players from all backgrounds joined us, and what began as a club naturally became something more — a second home for many.
Whether you’re unwinding after work or balancing your studies, our doors are open. We come together to enjoy a sport we love, driven by passion, energy, and a genuine sense of belonging. If badminton excites you, then we already share something in common.
We don’t just aim to be another badminton club. We strive to be one of the best — fostering positive energy, mutual support, continuous improvement, and, of course, plenty of fun along the way.
Today, we proudly compete in the Birmingham League, and several of our players represent us at national rallies. No matter your level, if you’re committed, motivated, and eager to grow, you’ll find your place here.

eBadders is a free online platform that helps our club run organized, fair, and balanced badminton sessions.
With eBadders, you can:
Automatically sort players into competitive games based on skill
Track your session and club rankings
View personal stats, match history, and performance over time
Ensure everyone gets balanced and enjoyable games
How to get an account:
Provide your email to a club organiser at your next session
You will receive an activation email
Click the link to set your password and start using your account
Player accounts are completely free and give you access to all your stats and rankings.
Ranking System
We use two types of rankings to track performance: Session Ranking and Club (Global) Ranking.
Session Ranking
Shows the top players for a single session based on win ratio (games won ÷ games played)
Players with the same ratio are compared using average points per game
Players must participate in enough games to appear on the ranking
Club (Global) Ranking
Reflects your overall skill level across multiple sessions
Adjusted after every game: wins increase skill, losses decrease skill
The score of the game does not matter—only the outcome
Wins against stronger opponents increase your ranking more than wins against weaker opponents
Wins with a stronger partner have less effect than wins with a partner of similar level
Certain unusual games, such as one female and one male vs two males, do not count for the Club Ranking

Help organise balanced games and fair matches
Inform organisers about team formation and session planning
Track your progress and improvement over time
Important Notes
Recent games count more than older games to reflect improvement
Rankings are a guide, not an absolute measure; many factors like style and partners affect results
Rankings are gender-specific; compare females with females and males with males
To become a member of the Dragon Badminton Club, individuals must first complete a trial session with the Badminton Performance Group, the club’s training wing.
Steps to Join:
Contact the Organisers: Reach out via our website, social media, or WhatsApp to arrange a trial session.
Sign Up on Spond: The trial booking is managed through Spond, so you must create an account on the platform first.
Book a Trial Session: Once signed up, you can see available training sessions and select one to complete your trial.
Pay the Trial Fee: The cost of the trial session is £12.
Provide Your Details: After a successful trial, you will need to provide your information for the club to add you into the system.
After a Successful Trial:
You can officially join the Dragon Badminton Club.
You will be able to book your own sessions using the eBadders platform.
The trial ensures that every new member meets the standards for participation while giving you a taste of the training experience.
At Dragon Badminton Club, we use RSL Classic Academy shuttlecocks (Central Sports link) for all our club sessions.

Usage in Sessions:
Shuttles are kept within the court to ensure safety; they are not allowed in corridors or walkways where other players could trip.
During games and exercises, the playing area is kept clear of loose shuttles to avoid accidents.
After each session, shuttles are collected and reused where appropriate, ensuring consistent quality for all players.

RSL is a trusted badminton brand, known for producing high-quality shuttlecocks for training and competitive play.
The Classic Academy model provides long-lasting performance while giving players the real feel of a feather shuttle, which is important for proper technique and gameplay.
By using these shuttles, we ensure that club sessions are enjoyable, safe, and competitive, giving players a reliable experience every week.
During our club sessions, players are normally expected to play between six and nine games per session.
To make sure everyone gets enough matches and an enjoyable experience, we limit the total number of participants:
Maximum players per session: 28
Number of courts available: 4
This setup ensures that all players have plenty of games, can rotate fairly, and enjoy a balanced and competitive session.
In some situations, the number of courts used during club sessions may be reduced:
Special Matches or Home Events: When we have a unique or home match, we may use only two courts instead of the usual four.
Venue Restrictions: If the school or venue hosting the session is affected by exams or other events, court availability may be limited to two courts, or the session location may be changed.
These adjustments ensure that sessions can still run smoothly and safely, even when space is limited. Players will be informed in advance of any changes whenever possible.
Dragon Badminton Club is officially registered in the Birmingham Badminton League and fields a team that represents the club in competitive matches against other clubs in the area.
We are always on the lookout for skilled and committed players to join the league team. Selection is based on:
Playing ability and skill level
Commitment to the club and attendance at sessions
Readiness to participate in a reasonable number of league matches
Players selected for the league team are expected to be able to actively represent the club in matches and contribute positively to the team’s performance.
Joining the league team is a great opportunity to play competitive badminton, improve your skills, and represent Dragon Badminton Club in the local badminton community.
Club Session Cost:
For the 2025–26 season (September to September), the cost per club session is £9 for non-members.
Annual Membership:
Members can purchase an annual membership for £45.
Membership reduces the cost of club sessions to £7 per session.

Discount on Badminton Performance Group (BPG) training sessions:
Standard BPG session rate: £20
With Dragon referral, members pay £16 per session
To qualify for the BPG discount, members must first attend a number of sessions with Dragon before being recommended to the BPG.

Yes. Parking is available at both venues. At the Arch, you can park on the street and on nearby roads. It can be a bit busy at times, but there is always space available. At Harborne, there is free on-site parking, which is normally sufficient for everyone. Some parents arrive earlier for other sports activities, but they usually leave by 8:00 pm, when our session starts, making parking very accessible.
Dragon Badminton Club membership is optional, but it offers exclusive benefits and discounts for players who choose to join.
Membership Fee:
£45 per year
Membership Period & Sign-Up Windows:
Membership is valid for 365 days from the month of payment.
New members can sign up during three periods each year:
September
January
June
The membership year begins from the month payment is made, not a fixed calendar date.
Important Payment Information:
Membership fees are not prorated.
If a sign-up window (September, January, or June) is missed, individuals may:
Pay the full £45 fee when joining later in the season, or
Wait until the next official sign-up month to register.
